Scaffolding User- Safety measures

An elevated, temporary work platform is known as a Scaffold. The two basic types of scaffolds are Supported scaffolds and Suspended scaffolds available at Scaffolding Suppliers in Dubai are:

  1. Supported Scaffolds consist of one or more platforms backed by strong, fixed, load-bearing members, such as poles, legs, frames, outriggers, etc.
  2. Suspended scaffolds are one or more platforms balanced by ropes or other non-rigid, overhead support. Scissor lifts and aerial lifts are also considered as other types of supported scaffolds.

Who are the USERS of Scaffolds?

Scaffold users are workers whose work requires them to be supported by scaffolding to access the area of a structure where that work is performed.

  • Workers like Erectors and dismantlers – The main activity involves assembling scaffolding before other work at the site can begin. After completion of that work or after a portion of that work is completed, disassembling scaffolding activity takes place.
  • A competent person – Such a person is trained and involved in erecting and/or disassembling a scaffold. A competent person should be capable of identifying existing and predictable dangers. This person usually is authorized to take immediate correctional measures to eliminate such hazards.

Designing and Constructing Scaffolds should be done by a qualified person depending on the project design. A qualified person possesses a recognized degree, certificate, or professional reputation or has extensive knowledge, training, and experience. He or she should have successfully demonstrated the ability to solve or resolve problems relating to the work, or the project. They should be able to adequately pre-plan to assure the safe erection and use of the scaffold. Options for Scaffolding Hire in Abu Dhabi are also widely available.

Scaffolding Safety Measures

Scaffolding safety includes a combination of practices and safety procedures that helps to implement proper and safe use of scaffoldings. To ensure safety some pre-emptive actions must take place in buildings. These actions include inspecting, using, and tagging scaffolds. These measures can minimize or remove workers’ exposure to hazards such as falls, electrocutions, and falling objects. Scaffolding safety is crucial as it helps to prevent workplace incidents from recurring. To guarantee the safety of SCAFFOLDING IN DUBAI

  • The scaffold must be built under the supervision of a competent person who is thoroughly trained on safe work techniques for working with scaffoldings.
  • It is equally important that workers are trained by a qualified person before they use the scaffold.
  • Checking and inspection of the scaffold and its components should be done before use before the start of the shift to ensure its integrity and safety.

Basic Dos and Don’ts to control the dangers and be safe when working on a scaffold:

Safety Dos:

  • Use a checklist and inspect the proper working order of the scaffold before the work shift to ensure safe work.
  • Adequate training must be imparted to scaffold workers.
  • Toolbox knowledge must be given to workers before beginning work.
  • Know the weight capacity of the scaffold.
  • Have a handhold above the scaffold platform.
  • Level the scaffold after each time it is moved without extending and adjusting leg screws more than 12 inches.
  • Wear safety belts and lanyards when working on scaffolding at a height of 10 feet or more above ground level. Attach the lanyard to a secure member of the scaffold.
  • When climbing the cross braces to reach the scaffold always safely use the ladder

Safety Don’ts:

  • Do not leave anything on the scaffold at the end of your shift.
  • Never Overload the scaffold.
  • Do not use unstable objects such as barrels, boxes, loose brick, or concrete blocks to support scaffolds as it increases your work height or planks.
  • Do not use a scaffold unless guardrails and all flooring are in place.
  • Never Stand on ties, guardrails, or extensions.
  • Do not use a damaged or tempered scaffold in any way, or if there are missing components such as planking, guardrails, toe boards, debris nets, or protective canopies.
  • Do not walk on ice, snow, or mud-covered scaffold planking.
  • Avoid using a scaffold during unfavorable weather conditions such as heavy rain, sleet, ice snow, or strong winds.
