How to use single width scaffolding and double width scaffolding towers ?

Before we look into the differences in scaffolding, it is very important to understand the meaning of scaffolding and how they differ from each other. Scaffolding can be defined as the framework and the setup which is set before the construction of the big project. They are portable and very easy to carry and safe. There is a huge demand for scaffolding in Dubai. They are generally composed of two types of materials: Aluminum scaffolding and Steel scaffolding. Scaffolding comes in a variety of shapes and sizes such as A types ladder, Steel single width, and double width.

To reduce accidents on construction sites companies should contact the best Scaffolding Supplier in Dubai. Ace scaffolding is known as one of the best suppliers of scaffolding.

The  parts of scaffolding are as follows:

1. Standards: The vertical posts are the first standard also called uprights.

2. Ledgers: The horizontal components of the ledger are aligned with the wall.

3. Putlogs: Horizontal components that are perpendicular to the wall.

4. Braces: The system of bracing.

5. Bridle: A member used to span gaps.

6. Transoms: In double scaffolding, putlogs with both ends are supported on ledgers.

7. Boarding: Workmen stand in the planks.

8. Guard rail: A barrier stands at the height of about 1m  to protect the men working on the boarding.

9. Toe board: Toeboards are the boards that are placed parallel to boarding near the wall to protect workers.

10. Base plate or sole plate: Plates that support standards on the ground.

Now we will see the use of single width scaffolding and double width scaffolding :

Single Width Scaffolding :

  • Single width Scaffolding is mainly used in situations when the space is very limited and it has restrictions.
  • For small scaffold towers, working loads of up to 225 kg per tower are authorized.
  • Single width aluminium mobile scaffolding towers are primarily utilized for small construction projects.
  • To make the balance a port in the wall is built and single width scaffolding is connected with it.
  • Single width towers are used on the brick wall while constructing and are lower in height and they can easily handle worker and construction materials.
  • Single width scaffolding is also known as bricklayers scaffolding.
  • Scaffolding with single width is mostly used as brickwork and consists of an outer row of the verticals.

Double width scaffolding :

  • Double width scaffolding tower provides a secure working platform with a maximum width of 1.350m and a freestanding platform height of 12m.
  • This type of scaffolding tower contains a minimum number of components and all the frames can be utilized above or below each other.
  • Frame sizes are available in twos, threes and fours, and fives layers. Double width scaffolding is mainly utilized for large construction projects and it is primarily used to balance the structure for the workers.
  • When we build, construct or maintain a stone wall we focus more on height and the structure that can easily hold construction materials and workers.
  • Double scaffolding is also called Mason’s scaffolding.

The following are some of the most important scaffolding rules to remember :

  • For heavy work such as masonry, the uprights should not be more than 1.8m (6ft) apart and for light work such as painting, they should not be more than 3m (10ft).
  • Single scaffolding putlogs should be able to support the wall opening.
  • Putlogs should not be made of short members fastened to the wall.
  • The platforms must be sufficiently large. If the height is more than 1.8 meters, it should not be less than 17 inches (425 mm) in width.
  • The plank should not be damaged or defective. The grains in the wood used should not be more than 10 degrees with the length of the plank to prevent sudden failure of the planks.
  • There should be no overhanging of the planks.
  • All scaffolding should be correctly planned so that the workers do not fall away from the wall laterally.
  • Workmen should avoid working under the scaffolding.
  • Lorries should be prohibited to come near scaffolding.
  • To climb onto the scaffolding, safe ladders should be provided.
  • Guardrails should be provided for the scaffolding, if the height is more than 2 meters.

However, the above mentioned details are regarding the utilization of single width scaffolding and double width scaffolding towers. Ace Scaffolding is known as one of the best scaffolding companies in Abu Dhabi.
