4 types of scaffolding commonly used in building construction
Scaffolding is a rigid structure that is constructed of wood, bamboo, or timber. The primary goal of constructing a scaffold is to provide a platform on which workers can work at different heights. For immediate uses at different heights scaffolds also help to lift materials. Ace is one of the best scaffolding companies in Abu Dhabi that provides various types of scaffolding that are used in building construction work.
In the building construction work, the following are the four types of scaffolding that are commonly being used :
- Bricklayers Scaffolding or Single Scaffolding
- Mason’s Scaffolding or Double Scaffolding
- Steel or Tubular Scaffolding
- Needle Scaffolding or Cantilever Scaffolding
1. Single Scaffolding for Bricklayers Scaffolding :
- This type of scaffolding, which is made up of bamboo or timber is also known as Standards, consists of a series of vertical members firmly attached to the ground in a row that is parallel to the building wall.
- The distance between the two standards must be kept within 2.4 to 3 m.
- Longitudinal horizontal elements connect to each of these members that are named Ledgers.
- At every rise of 120 cm to 150 cm, these ledgers are tied with standards.
- The standard is tied to the ledgers with the help of Rope lashing.
- To fasten the putlogs with ledgers rope lashing is used.
- If the scaffolding is particularly tall, rope lashing is used to keep it stable, and diagonal elements known as Braces are sometimes installed. Rope lashing is used to cross diagonally attach the braces to the standards.
2. Mason’s Scaffolding or Double Scaffolding :
- In the case of stone masonry, this type of scaffolding in Dubai is commonly used. It is more durable than the bricklayer’s scaffolding.
- The distinction between mason’s scaffolding and brick layer’s scaffolding are as follow:
- A single row of the standard is fixed into the ground in the case of a brick layer’s scaffolding,
- The first row of standards is attached near to the wall, while the second row is fixed 1.5 meters away from the first row. This is the reason it is referred to as “double scaffolding.”
- One end of the putlog is fixed with a wall in the case of a brick layer’s scaffolding. At both ends on ledgers Put logs are supported.
- As a consequence, mason’s scaffolding is completely independent of the wall surface, and no holes in the wall are required.
3. Steel or Tubular Scaffolding :
The construction method of steel scaffolding is very similar to that of mason’s scaffolding and bricklayers scaffolding.
And the primary differences are :
- In this type of scaffolding, steel tubes of the diameter of 40 m to 60 mm are used instead of using timber.
- Scaffolding supplier in Dubai provides special types of steel couples that are used for fastening instead of using rope lashing.
- It is placed on the base plate instead of fixing the standards into the ground.
- Generally, the gap of 2.5 m to 3m is kept between two standards, and these standards are fixed on a round or square steel plate that is known as the base plate for the welding process.
- At every rise of 1.8 m Ledgers are spaced. The length of the putlogs is normally 1.2 m to 1.8m.
The benefits of the Steel Scaffolds are as follow:
- In comparison to timber scaffolding, it can be erected or dismantled more rapidly.
- This also helps in saving construction time.
- It is more durable than timber hence it is economical in the long run.
- It has a lot more fire-resisting capacity.
- It is more safe and suitable to work at any height.
4. Needle Scaffolding or Cantilever Scaffolding :
In the following instances, needle scaffolding or cantilever scaffolding is usually required:
- When it is impossible to fix standards into the ground.
- When on the side of a busy street construction is done.
- In the case of tall buildings, construction work is carried out at a very high level.
- Instead of attaching the standard into the ground, this sort of scaffolding places it at a height above the ground level.
- The platform on which stands are placed is known as a needle.
- A needle is a cantilever construction constructed of wood that protrudes from the wall’s holes.
- The inside end of the needles is supported by struts wedged between the needles and the headpieces to prevent the needle from lifting.
- An angled strut rests on the window sill and supports the needle’s pushed outer end. Dogs are used to clamp the joints between the inclined strut and the needle.
Hence, the above mentioned are four types of scaffolding commonly used in building construction. Ace is one of the most popular Scaffolding suppliers in Riyadh that provide the best quality of equipment at a reasonable price.
